Facebook’s New Featured Events

Facebook

Towards the end of June 2016 Facebook announced a “featured events’ list for users (only currently available in 10 US cities).  This new “featured” events list will be created by a team of employees at Facebook.  This means that the already suggested events that we currently see which is determined by a computer algorithm, will be created by humans.

If/when it rolls out to the rest of the world, for those that don’t use the current events feature, you most likely won’t even notice the change, but Facebook claims that 550 million people use this feature, so they claim some people will notice it.

They have also stated that they will not include events primarily focused on politics or worship and that they will not give special treatment or placement to events from Facebook advertisers. However, running ads alongside the Featured Events may be an option down the track.
