Facebook is cutting back on links to slow loading web pages.
Facebook will be unveiling over the coming months an update to the News Feed that allows for faster linking to mobile-friendly web pages. According to Facebook engineers Jiayi Wen and Shengbo Guo, 40% of users abandon a web page that takes over three seconds to load.
The duo (Wen and Guo) visualise a ranking of links within News Feed that will place quicker loading web pages to the top of the feed. This will be based on factors such as device, user connection speed, and general speed of the site. In order to fasten up the speed for users with poor connections as much as 25%, facebook will download content ahead of time. This process is known as “pre-fetching”.
If you rely on Facebook for your business, now might the time to revisit your website to see how it’s performing.
